Applying a template to a new page and existing pages: You can use a template to create a new page, and add your content to the editable regions in the template or reformat a page according to a template by appling a template to an existing page. You can also detach a template to prevent a page from being modified when you edit a template and update its associated pages.

To use a template to create a new page:

1) Choose File > New then select the Template tab, click on a Site and choose a template.

2) Select a template from the sites Template list.

3) Click Create.

Applying a template to an existing page

To reformat a page according to a template, apply the template to an existing page. Dreamweaver places existing content into appropriate sections in the template. If the page contains content that does not fit into the template, Dreamweaver asks you to designate a section for the content.

To apply a template to a document:

1) In Dreamweaver, open a document.

2) Choose Modify > Templates > Apply Template to Page.

NOTE If the Choose Editable Region for Orphaned Content dialog box appears, select an editable region in the template to place all of the orphaned content in that region. You can rearrange the placement of objects in editable regions when editing the page, if necessary.

Detaching a page from its template

To prevent a page from being modified when you edit a template and update its associated pages, you can detach a page from the template used to format it.

For example, suppose you use a template to format four pages in your site, and then decide to edit the template. If you want to apply the changes to three of the pages, but you want to preserve the fourth page unchanged, you can detach the fourth page from the template so that the updates are not applied to that page.

To detach a page from its template:

1) Open the page that you want to detach.

2) Choose Modify > Templates > Detach From Template.
