#1 Homepage Rule


Your main page should specifically let your visitors know exactly what you're offering. If your potential customer can't find your product or service, they definitely won't waste a lot of time looking for it. They'll go on to the next site and probably never return. They're visiting your site for a specific purpose. They want something your site offers.

#2 Homepage Rule

Make sure that your homepage loads fast or people may never see it. Today's online community is a fast paced group that doesn't like waiting, so don't make them wait.

Homepage Identity Crisis: Does your home-page clearly identify what your site is about. It is not that uncommon for visitors to go to a Web site and have no immediate clue as to where they are or if they should stay. Don't assume that people will spend the time to find out what your site is about, most won't.

One possible solution is to clearly identify your Company Logo along with a short description of what you do. Be sure to place the information in the upper left hand corning as this is where people have learned to look.

Making the most of your homepage: Making good use of the most valuable page on your entire site is an important issue. It may be obvious what your site sells, but you also need to tell people why they should purchase from you. Let your visitor know what makes you better that the store down the street.
