CSS Benefits

Using Cascading Style Sheets for design/layout of a site and XHTML for coding content has some distinct advantages:

  • Pages have stability, meaning that they are forward and backward compatible — any device that can read HTML will be able to successfully navigate and read your site. This includes older browsers, current and future browsers, hand-held devices, wireless devices, screen readers, search engine robots — any user agent.
  • Pages have structural integrity, meaning that all user agents, past and future, as well as server-side and client-side technologies, will easily be able to interpret the structure of the page, and therefore access and evaluate information on the page
  • Pages are generally ADA Section 508 compliant
  • Maintenance of sites is greatly simplified as decisions to change a design aspect (i.e. font type, font size, headings sizes, colors, etc.) only needs to be changed in one place — the style sheet
  • With content separated from design, non-programmers can easily update sites without fear of disturbing the design
  • Search engines can more easily index sites without needing to navigate all the layout code inherent in non-CSS sites
  • Development and maintenance of site is less costly

Consulting services are more of a collaborative effort which involves working together in an assistive manner helping you or your in-house development team to make the transition to CSS, XHTML and Web Standards that include accessibility for Section 508 compliant sites.
